June 2014 Goal Setting!

I remember sitting at my computer roughly eighteen months ago, visiting my very talented friend Lindsay Corrigan’s blog, and seeing her goals all written out and beautiful for the world to see. (She is a FABULOUS photographer and the owner of Three Eleven Photography who took the cover photo for my website in literally fifteen minutes before preschool pick-up!) I thought she was amazing to share her very personal dreams and aspirations with the world and wished I could be that brave. But I was pretty certain that I never would be. As I read her posts about goal setting, I decided that it sounded like a pretty good thing to do. And you know what? I started setting my own goals and following through with them. The results were incredible!

Don’t get me wrong. I like spontaneity. In fact, if I could just spend my life floating along and waiting for things to happen, I would. The only problem with that is that, when you have dreams and ambitions, it’s hard to make them come true without a road map! In the coming weeks, I’m going to tell you all about how I go about goal setting each month, but, because June is sneaking up on me pretty quickly, (and I have a meeting with my accountability partner — more on those later — tomorrow!) I thought I would share my goals for this month.

They are a little sparser than some months because preschool is out and I know the majority of my non-mommy time is going to be devoted to getting my book edits finished. (Woo hoo! That I’m even saying that feels like a miracle!) And I learned pretty quickly that, if the goals aren’t attainable, they aren’t going to happen!

If you have something — or a lot of things — that you’re trying to achieve, don’t wait until next month! Sit down, figure out what’s important, where you want to go, and get moving in that direction! Even if it’s the tiniest, baby step, putting energy into something that you really want every day can help you get there so much faster. Take it from the person that wrote query letters to agents in between the 2 and 4 a.m. feedings, there’s never going to be a “right time!” (Oh, yeah. And have a back-up plan…!)

Monthly Projects:

1. Get my novel edits completed and turned in!

2. Pare down my closet and donate things I no longer wear.

3. Buy plants for hubby’s office.

4. Get one week ahead on my blog posts.

Weekly Goals:

1. Go on a date with hubby.

2. Clean out one cabinet or closet.

3. Send birthday cards to friends.

Daily Goals: (These are the first 5 items on my “to-do” list every day!)

1. Exercise 25 minutes.

2. Read 6 books to Will.

3. Tidy the house before bed.

4. Bible reading from Bible reading challenge.

5. Make tomorrow’s “to-do” list before bed.

That’s it! If you’re working toward a goal that seems pretty big, just remember:

  • Kristy, thank you so much for the shout-out and encouragement! I am so grateful we’ve gotten to be friends. It is so uplifting having another mama friend who is also a creative dreamer. You are doing amazing things! It’s scary putting your goals out there for anyone to see, but it sets them in concrete in a way – it’s motivating, right?! Go do it! Btw – I’m working on my “capsule wardrobe” and paring down my closet contents, too – it is so tough! (shout out to Caroline at un-fancy.com for motivating my closet overhaul.) Cheers to de-cluttering life!

    • Thanks, Lindsay! I’m going to go check out un-fancy.com too! Spring cleaning is the best!
