Good morning, friends! It’s the day before the big day! I know I should say that I’m prepping and shopping and all those things good wives and mothers do before Thanksgiving… But I’m not. Our family is eating out this year. I’m not much of a cook. Hubby is a great one, but, every once in a while, you need a break! So we’re going to enjoy feeling thankful for our families and that someone else is doing the cooking!
While I wasn’t cooking, I did at least manage to write a column for The Salisbury Post. I wrote my first column for them twelve years ago, when I was seventeen and the editor, Elizabeth Cook, gave me an internship. Internships were supposed to be blow-off classes where you had breakfast with your friends, but I found myself, instead of wanting to play hooky, wanting to stay even longer. I think that year was the most crucial in my deciding that I wanted to become a writer. All these years later, I don’t think I could have anticipated how special it still feels to see my name in print at the very first non-school publication where I ever saw it.
We’re heading to Salisbury’s Christmas parade, which is a pretty cool thing for me. See, the spot where I always watched the parade used to be Security Bank, where my grandfather was CEO. Now, that very same spot City Hall and my dad’s mayor’s office. Pretty full circle, right?
Whether you’re prepping a turkey or playing hooky and watching the parade like me, I hope it’s an amazing day! And if you get a free second go over The Salisbury Post, my first writing home, and check out my column!
I loved reading your column! A great story and memory and thank you so much for sharing it.
Happy Thanks giving to you all. I also prefer going “out” .Last year we had a fabulous meal at a wonderful restaurant and this year we’re off to a friends home….
