February Reading Challenge Book Pick + So Much Fun in SoCal!

Hi, friends! Happy February! We’ve had a great start to the month with a fun trip to California and my sweet hubby’s birthday yesterday. And today, I’m so excited to share with you my February Reading Challenge Book Pick! (Get more information about the Reading Challenge here!)

February’s category is Biography or Memoir, and, honestly, y’all, I don’t think I’ve read a better one in some time. Cassandra King Conroy’s Tell Me a Story is a heartfelt, poignant tale of her life with her beloved husband–and literary legend–Pat Conroy. Funny, sad and beautifully written, it is the perfect Valentine’s Day read too!

I’d love it, of course, if you’d like to read along with me. Either way, let me know what you’re reading this February in the comments below.

Sunny SoCal Highlights!

Speaking on the Southern fiction panel with Cassandra King Conroy and Colleen Oakley, moderated by Kristina McMorris.

California was AMAZING. Adventures by the Book sure knows how to throw a party! All the events in the Super Book Weekend were beyond fantastic and we had the best time! Here are a few of my favorite snaps!

Amazing crowd on the insanely beautiful Queen Mary!
Attempting to read and talk at the same time… But also, check out the details on the gorgeous ship!
Me attempting to moderate the duo of Karen White and Beatriz Williams. They are hilarious!!
Manager extraordinaire Kathie Bennett with Kristina McMorris, Susan McBeth from Adventures by the book, Mary Alice Monroe, Kristin Harmel and yours truly at the Southern luncheon!
Signing and standing at the (standing room only!) luncheon with Mary Alice Monroe, Kristina McMorris and Kristin Harmel, who isn’t in this pic for some reason. We’re hoping to start a girl band called Mary and The Kristys.
Cute readers!
TaleGate party at Signal Hill Library!
The mayor came and she was awesome! (And I look tired. Because I was.)
So flattered that these lovelies came to sit at my table! You might recognize Bookapotamus on my right, who came from New Jersey, and Well Read Traveler on my left, who is an Orange County gal. (They have names, but, you know, Instagram…)
Ghost hunting on the ship with Karen White, Mary Alice Monroe, Beatriz Williams, Jan Moran and Fiona Davis. Love them! And we didn’t find any ghosts. Super disappointed.

Can’t wait for the next adventure! Happy day, friends!

  • “Braving It: A father, a daughter, and an unforgettable journey into the alaskan wild.”
A true adventure story disguised as a memoir–an amazing 15-year old girl and her father trek into the far reaches of alaska, LEARNING TO SURVIVE THE HARSHEST CONDITIONS THE LAND HAS TO OFFER, and defyING death on more than one occasion.
FASCINATING, INFORMATIVE, AND FUN–I hope we hear more about this young woman!!

    • This sounds so good! Have you read Kristin Hannah’s The Great Alone? It was great and sort of a similar idea. (Except this one is true, I’m assuming!)

  • This looks like a wonderful event! I would love to know the source of your balck and white dress, it is gorgeous.

Looking forward to the February book.

    • Oh, thank you! It is by Equipment. I am OBSESSED with their blouses and dresses. They are great for packing and very versatile. (Comfy too!)
