Fun Week and a Giveaway!

IMG_1978

Good morning, friends! I hope you all had a terrific weekend! We have had a bit of a whirlwind week around here. We got back from our amazing, beautiful and relaxing family trip to Bitter End Yacht Club in the British Virgin Islands (I’m trying to share photos, but they’re all coming in upside down for no good reason…) around 2 am due to some flight delays, but I didn’t care what time we got in because I was getting to tape for North Carolina Bookwatch with the wonderful DG Martin that day!!! This was one of my author bucket list items, so getting to actually be on this set that I have seen on TV so, so many times was such a thrill. (I got to see some of the other stages too. Pretty cool!) We talked all about Lies and Other Acts of Love, and I think DG is even kinder in person than he is on TV.

But the day wasn’t without incident. We were having terrible weather all around NC, so my two hour drive was a tiny bit scary. And about the time I got to the TV station and got my mic all situated, the tornado watches around Durham turned to tornado warnings. On the bright side, I got to hang out with all of these cool people in the control room and chat and learn lots about UNC-TV. (And they taught me a lot about tornado watches vs. warnings so there’s that!) But they wouldn’t let me touch any of the buttons… DG and I did get to film around six o’clock that evening, so the people on this crew were real troopers for staying late and letting us film. The interview will air some time around Lies and Other Acts of Love’s release, and I can’t wait to share it! It was my first 30-minute, full-length segment, and I thought it would feel like forever but it flew. That’s because DG is such a pro! It felt like we were just chatting over coffee.IMG_2008

My little family headed off the next morning for the fabulous Savannah, GA. I’ve never been there before. Can you believe it? But I get to go twice in the span of a couple of months, so I’m making up for it now. We loved Savannah. It is beautiful! Our 4-year-old took this shot of my hubby and me, hence half of poor Will being cut off, in front of this adorable little library on the Flannery O’Connor book trail right across from Forsyth Park. Flannery O’Connor made me fall in love with both short stories and writing about the South, so this was so fun!

But the real reason I was there was to take the stage at the Southern Women’s Show. I got to be there with the fabulous Kim Boykin and amazing Olivia deBelle Byrd.

Here’s my little table! (That was a gigantic pic of my face… Kind of scary.) And those are my cute new beach bags and insulated coffee cups!

There were thousands of women there, so, needless to say, we had a terrific time chatting and signing books. It’s always a treat to get to be with other authors and we were so humbled by the crowd that showed up to talk to us. A fun weekend all around!

  • Kristy,
Wow, how exciting for the interview, but how scary that it was during a tornado warning/watch?
I’m so happy for you and look forward to sharing my thoughts on your wonderful new book (about to be released).
    xo,
    Karen

    • Thank you, Karen! It was a little scary, but it ended well. Nothing like a little adventure to shake things up!! xo
