Valentine’s Day Memories

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! I love roses and romance, so this is sort of right up my alley. And I LOVE all of you who stop by here and take the time to comment and email and are so very sweet about my random musings! It has been so much fun getting to know you and you always brighten my day. That’s what love is all about, right?

I was thinking this morning about the first Valentine’s Day I spent with my hubby, nine Valentine’s Days ago. I’m sure we did amazing things and he got me a wonderful gift. But what I remember most clearly will be very telling about me, I think… Reese’s Hearts are fine and those big, heart-shaped boxes of candy are great. But my weakness is Easter candy, specifically those tiny, crunchy Cadbury Eggs and those bigger crunchy Hershey’s Eggs that are almost impossible to find around here.

Today, internet shopping is so prevalent that almost everything is at our fingertips all the time, but, back then, finding Easter Candy on Valentine’s Day would have taken some serious forethought and planning. So when he walked in with roses and Cadbury Eggs and Hershey’s Eggs, I thought, “Wow, this man really loves me.”

In retrospect, I’m even more shocked because we’d never dated through Easter candy season before for him to witness my insanity over and addiction to these particular candies. Which means I told him and he remembered. If I hadn’t already known I was going to marry him, I think that might have done it! Which just goes to show that expensive gifts are great and grand gestures look good on TV. But it’s the simple ways we remind people how much we love them that really mean the most.

Do you have a favorite Valentine’s Day memory? If not, I hope you make one this year with someone you love!

  • Kristy,
What a sweet story. I have always thought its the little things that make people special. That was a feat to find Easter candy in February, although I’ve noticed this year that Easter items have hit the shelves in several stores.
I hope your holiday was filled with additional memory making fun yesterday.
    xo,
    Karen

    • I know, Karen! It’s crazy! Every holiday keeps getting earlier and earlier. I guess it’s good to always have something to celebrate!
