No one says it better than e.e. cummings. He was known for his innovation, but I think you’d agree that this sentiment, “It’s always ourselves we find in the sea,” is something that people have known since the very beginning. A water view anywhere is great and the mountains are lovely and wide open spaces full of fresh air can make us think more clearly. But I’m convinced that nothing is quite as soul-refreshing as the ocean. Maybe it’s the sound of the waves crashing to the shore that lulls us into tranquility or the feeling that, no matter what is going on in our lives, we are so very small compared to the vastness of the sea… But there’s simply nothing more calming. Which is perhaps what makes it so difficult to leave it!
We are savoring our last eleven days at the beach before school starts and it’s officially back to reality. No more leisurely days in the sand–well, not on the week days anyway! (On the bright side, I’ll have time to blog a little more regularly!)
Before the summer officially draws to a close, we have a fun weekend full of celebrations! I am setting out champagne glasses right now to toast a college friend who will be a bride before we turn around, which means getting to visit with some of my favorite people in the whole world who I don’t get to see enough.
And the fall holds the promise of tailgates and football games, sweater weather and so many fun book events! Which just goes to show that, no matter how wonderful something seems, there might just be something even better waiting around the corner.
Whatever is around your corner this weekend, I hope it’s fantastic!
I feel the same way about the ocean Kristy, for sure someday, I will need to live close to it (Maybe we were water creatures in another life?;-)) Glad your enjoying your last days of summer, I am so not ready for summer to end, but I feel a bit of cool air already! Enjoy your busy but fun weekend!
