Just My Typo

Just My Typo

Hi, friends! I hope you all had an amazing weekend. Ours was great! We got to do a little relaxing at one of our favorite places, The Umstead Hotel and Spa. It’s only an hour and a half away, so, lately, we’ve been catching a night there when we can. It’s so restful and has the yummiest food.

I forgot to bring the novel I was reading, and, fortunately, had Just My Typo, compiled by Drummond Moir, that Blogging for Books sent me for review. It’s basically the perfect book for a writer (especially one who blogs with minimal proofreading and makes some crazy typos herself…), but it seriously hilarious for anyone. Hubby and I were cracking up — especially about the “Autocorrect Dystopia” section. It’s so funny because I know we’ve all had some pretty awesome autocorrects in our time. A good many of these are not super appropriate to share here, but here’s one of my favorites:

“So how was the date last night bro”

“Did you score”

“Not quite. First date we went to dinner and then walked her home”

“Then I killed her in the woods outside her house and left”

“Killing her seems a bit harsh. Did she order the lobster and filet mignon at dinner or something”

          “*****************KISSED wtf”

I’m laughing about this one all over again! This is another one from TV magazine (US) from 1987. “Yoko Ono will talk about her husband John Lennon, who was killed in an interview with Barbara Walters.”

This is just a quick peek, but this book is hilarious. It’s amazing how one little comma or word can totally change the meaning of a sentence. I’m definitely going to be stuffing a few stockings with it!

More about the author:

Drummond Moir grew up in Edinburgh and studied at St. Anne’s College, Oxford, and Daiichi Keizai University in Fukuoka, Japan. Now based in London, he is Editorial Director of Sceptre, one of the UK’s leading literary imprints.

Did you do (or read?) anything fun over the weekend? Either way, I hope it’s a wonderful week!

  • I love reading those autocorrect things, although when I’m typing on my phone and it corrects something I really don’t want it to, it can be a pain to fix it back 🙂 You were only a couple miles from where I live when you were at the Umstead. Obviously I’ve never stayed there, but we have eaten there, and the food is wonderful.

    • Oh my gosh, Donna! That’s so cool! I have some friends that go stay there all the time, and I used to think it was so funny since they were so close to home. But it’s a nice little “staycation!”

  • Kristy,
I had to laugh, don’t you wonder what program writers were thinking when they designed the smart phone, tablet or whatever to correct words that make sentences completely different, usually to humorous or horrific ends!
I’m embroiled in a new Anna French murder mystery—Irish all-girls school is the back drop. I’m ready for some serious humor.
    xo,
    Karen

  • Hahaha! I’ve had a few funny ones myself, especially since I speak another language too, and autocorrect always tries to correct my Filipino words into English, which more often than not, translates into funny stuff! I should jot it down 😉
