Kind Words from Kristin Harmel + What I’m Reading, Watching and Loving!

With fewer than three months until Under the Southern Sky releases, I am counting down the minutes! And I am so, so grateful for the help and kindness of all my friends and readers. My darling, brilliant NYT Bestselling bestie Kristin Harmel absolutely made my day with her gorgeous words about Under the Southern Sky!

“I’ve always been a Kristy Woodson Harvey fan, but she has taken things to a whole new level with Under the Southern Sky, her best novel yet. I laughed, sobbed, and gasped at the story’s clever twists and turns; I couldn’t flip the pages fast enough to see how Amelia’s and Parker’s story turned out. You’ll need plenty of tissues—and maybe some of Cape Carolina’s beloved bourbon-spiked sweet tea—to make it to the end. Deliciously plotted, intricately constructed, gorgeously written, and brimming with hope, Under the Southern Sky will steal your heart and make you think about first loves, second chances, and the unforeseeable twists of fate that guide us all.”Kristin Harmel, New York Times bestselling author of The Book of Lost Names

It’s never too early to preorder! UNDER THE SOUTHERN SKY is available from your local independent bookstore, Bookshop.org, Amazon, Target, Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million and everywhere books are sold!

What I’m Reading

Marisa de Los Santos is our special guest on Friends & Fiction this week–live on Wednesday at 7 pm! I’m devouring her I’d Give Anything. It’s a beautiful story told from one woman’s childhood and her adult self. My favorite thing? Her description of being a teenager, of the way you think this is it and life will never get better! It’s wonderful.

Our bookseller of the week is Hockessin BookShelf! Not only can you order I’d Give Anything, but you can also preorder Under the Southern Sky or any of the fab five’s 2021 releases and selected backlist titles at 10% off!

What I’m Watching

Don’t judge. But I can’t get enough of Bling Empire on Netflix. It’s the real life Crazy Rich Asians but in LA. It’s like if Real Housewives and Southern Charm had a baby. A really, really rich baby. And there’s a little bit of drama so far but not tons of all-out fighting, which stresses me out. It’s the perfect escape!

What I’m Listening To

Did you know that the Friends & Fiction Podcast has extra episodes that don’t run on our Wednesday night show? I know! I’m excited too! Right now, I’m getting ready to listen to this one:

Mary Kay Andrews and Kristin Harmel sit down with two incredible independent booksellers. They talked to Tim Ehrenberg of Nantucket Book Partners in Nantucket, MA, and to Laura Taylor of Oxford Exchange in Tampa, FL. Hear all about their stores, the creative ways they are finding to not just survive but thrive during the pandemic, the importance of shopping local, and their desert island reads.

What I’m Loving

I had the best time telling BookTrib all about the books I’m most looking forward to in 2021! If you need some TBR help, check it out!

  • I met Marisa a few years ago. She lives in Delaware, where I grew up. I think her husband teaches at my alma mater, the University of Delaware. She was wonderful and kind.
