My January Reading Challenge Pick!

Good morning, reader friends! And Happy 2020! I don’t know about you, but, for me, it feels like the new year officially begins on the Monday after New Year’s Day. Kids are back in school, we’re back to work… It just feels like the right time to make a fresh start, get organized and get back on track for a new year.

If you’ve followed along here for a while, you know that I am a big fan of goal setting, of figuring out where I want to go and looking back to see where I’ve come from. So much of that yearly progress stems on one word. It can be so difficult to sum up 365 days of life into one, single word. But, this year, strangely enough, it wasn’t that difficult for me.

After being out of our house for the entirety of 2019 from Hurricane Florence, moving more times then I would like to count, tons of book travel and just the busyness of life, my word for 2020 is something we could probably all use a little more of: stillness.

Of course, stillness of body is almost impossible, and that’s okay. It’s stillness of mind, that gift that you can take with you absolutely anywhere, that I’m after.

This month on the reading challenge, I challenged all of you to read a book related to your New Year’s Resolution. Or, if you don’t do things like resolutions, use it as an opportunity to read something to learn something new or expand your horizons in some way. I was very torn about what my January book would be. But when Cleere Cherry, a fellow NC girl, kindly sent me a copy of her new devotional, Be Still, it kind of felt like a sign. In a time when I’m looking for stillness, it was right there in the title.
