Something Old…

Good morning, friends! Wow, wow, wow, wow, I cannot possibly thank you enough for the most amazing launch day in the history of all the launch days. It feels so great to have THE WEDDING VEIL officially out in the world, and seeing all your shares and photos and receiving your comments and well wishes just absolutely made my day. And the launch party! Oh my word, the launch party. It was spectacular in every way, and I hope to share the photos with you next week. But, let’s just say, when a pair of Princess Diana’s dresses are there, things are good!

Onto my something old… If you know me or have read my books or columns, you probably know that family is very, very important to me. I was lucky enough to have my maternal grandparents at my wedding, but my paternal grandparents had passed away. So, as a reminder of them, my bouquet was wrapped with an antique, monogrammed lace handkerchief that my great-grandmother had passed down to my grandmother.

One of the things that struck me right away when I was researching Edith Vanderbilt’s wedding veil was that all the papers commented how it was her mother’s veil, yes. But it was made from her grandmother’s lace. It resonates more since it meant so much to me to have my great-grandmother’s lace with me on my wedding day!

What was your something old at your wedding? Let me know in the comments.

  • My something old at my wedding was the sixpence that my mother had put in her shoe for her wedding. so, that actually covered two of the conditions of the old ditty: and a sixpence for her shoe! The history there was that the father of the bride would slip a sixpense into his daughter’s shoe before she walked down the aisle. The sixpence stood for good luck and to show that the father wished his daughter prosperity in her marriage. My best to you and your family!

  • My something old was actually my wedding gown. It was my nanas. She wore it when she married my poppy (my maternal grandparents) and it was worN again when Nana’s sister married her HUSBAND- money was toght back then during the war so they shared. To be able to wear that long sleeved dress on a hot, humid north carolina summer day in july made my wedding even that mich more sPecial. After having been preserved it has now been passed down to the Only girl in the next generation.

  • My something old was my paternal grandmother’s wedding band. I wore it on my pinky so it was photographed next to my wedding ring once it was placed on my hand . either she had tiny fingers or i have large fingers. lol! unfortunately, all of my grandparents passed before I was born except this grandmother. she passed when i was only 2 so i don’t have any memories of her either…but i do have her wedding band and some of her wedding china. they are precious to me. you were very fortunate to have lace from your grandmother and your great grandmother to represent them on your wedding day!
