I am mad at my friend, author Cathy Lamb. She is as sweet and wonderful and lovely as a person could be. And has given me invaluable author advice. But she kept me up half the night. I could not put her latest novel, What I Remember Most, down! Seriously. And now I’m tired and, truth be told, grumpy. But there’s no sacrifice too great for the love of a good book!
Lamb’s protagonist, Grenady, is one of those characters that you simply must fight for. She has had a horrifically terrible life and is in the middle of quite the crisis in the book as well. But she is so brave and so spunky that you can’t help but hold your breath and cheer for her. Then there’s Kade, Grenady’s boss. She has sworn off of love, but, my oh my, he is a hero that would make you change your mind for sure. And Cathy has created a villain so shocking in his insanity that there is no word for it besides brilliant. Creepily, read-with-one-eye-because-you-can’t-quite-bear-it brilliant.
The secondary character’s in Lamb’s novel are spot-on and amazing. From the refined ex-spy to the menopausal, lovelorn single mom, every character is totally believable.
I’m not surprised at all to hear that Great Thoughts Great Readers has chosen What I Remember Most for its book club. It will be discussed on 4/23, so you have plenty of time to read — and order from your favorite bookstore! Also available on Amazon.
Here’s the back cover copy:
In a new novel rich in grace, warmth, and courage, acclaimed author Cathy Lamb tells of one woman’s journey of reinvention in the wake of deep betrayal.
Grenadine Scotch Wild has only vague memories of the parents she last saw when she was six years old. But she’s never forgotten their final, panicked words to her, urging Grenadine to run. The mystery of their disappearance is just one more frayed strand in a life that has lately begun to unravel completely. One year into her rocky marriage to Covey, a well known investor, he’s arrested for fraud and embezzlement. And Grenadine, now a successful collage artist and painter, is facing jail time despite her innocence.
In other fun news, DEAR CAROLINA got some great reviews yesterday!
My sweet blogging friend Katie Clooney from Preppy Empty Nester said, “The characters in this novel are well-rounded and charming. Kristy writes with southern style and knows how to deliver a great tale of love, complicated family relationships, and heart-wrenching sacrifice.” Thanks, Katie!
Also, a HUGE thank you to Jessica from Crossroad Reviews for the 5-Star Review! She called DEAR CAROLINA “an amazing debut.” Be still my heart… Thanks, Jessica! Jessica is hosting a giveaway too. Click here to enter!
I have this one sitting on my endless tbr shelf (it’s one of many I didn’t get to during my “clear your tbr pile challenge” this month). I’ll be sure to put this one closer to the top of the pile, but I must read Dear Carolina first of course 🙂
