Happy October, friends! I’ll save you from the obligatory Anne of Green Gables quote, but let’s just say that I, too, am happy to live in a world where there are Octobers… And pumpkin spice… And boots… And leggings… And cozy sweaters… And fireplaces… And so, so many good books. I wanted to share a few things that I am absolutely loving this October. Let me know what you’re loving too!
What I’m Reading…
An advance copy of Happy & You Know It by Laura Hankin. I’m just a couple chapters in, but loving this page-turner about “a struggling young musician who takes a job singing for a playgroup of overprivileged babies and their effortlessly cool moms, only to find herself pulled into their glamorous lives and dangerous secrets…” So far, it’s really funny in the way only a good social satire can be.
What’s Next in My TBR…
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. This is my all-time favorite book ever, and my book club is reading it and discussing in November. I’m so excited to chat about it with my friends!
What I’m Listening To…
Anna Wintour Teaches Creativity and Leadership on MasterClass. I’m loving the course, and Anna Wintour is so completely different than I thought she would be and incredibly focused on utilizing the opinions and thoughts of her team. She comes across as very, very warm and totally engaging. She is a pleasure to listen to and even makes a The Devil Wears Prada joke!
I’m in serious need of a new audiobook to listen to. If you have any suggestions please let me know in the comments!
What I’m Watching…
The Politician on Netflix. I’m loving this darkly comic show about a wealthy high school senior who believes he is destined for the White House, and his team of advisors (also in high school) that believes they will take him to the top. It’s full of soapy drama, but the fact that it’s all happening to teenagers tempers it a bit. Gwyneth Paltrow’s role as the mother is one she was born to play. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
What I’m Coveting…
One of my adorable long-time blog friends, Tello & Rose, just released a new bag! And it’s wonderful. It’s my new official “book bag,” as in, what I use to carry around what I’m reading, my current manuscript etc. It’s durable and sturdy and washable and chic all at once. Basically the perfect bag. Stay tuned because we’ll be giving one away soon! In the meantime, check it out!
What I’m Excited for…
I’ll be sharing a stage with Chief Justice Cheri Beasley, Reporter and Anchor Renee Chou and chef and TV star Vivian Howard on October 18 in Goldsboro, NC. If that wasn’t cool enough, I get to choose a song to walk on stage to. I know… Pretty fun. I’m between ROAR by Katy Perry and The Champion by Carrie Underwood. Let me know which you would choose. (Write-in votes are also welcome.) Get your tickets so you can come hang out with us too!
I’m also so excited about our new playroom! Some of you know that our house had to be gutted last year after Hurricane Florence and it has been a long renovation process. But the third floor, which houses the playroom, is all finished. Check out the full reveal on my design blog, Design Chic.
Don’t forget…
It’s never too early to pre-order Feels Like Falling from your favorite local bookstore or online retailer. And don’t forget to add Feels Like Falling to your Goodreads “Want to Read” Shelf!
While you’re waiting for Feels Like Falling‘s April 28 release, have you read the three books in my Peachtree Bluff Series, Slightly South of Simple, The Secret to Southern Charm and The Southern Side of Paradise? And my two standalones, Dear Carolina and Lies and Other Acts of Love? Now is the perfect time to catch up!
Love the post, Kristy and I love that bag. Checking it out as soon as I finish my comment. A tree grows in BROOKLYN is one of my favorite books, too. I’ve read it several times and find new things to like about it.
What I’m loving most is the cooler weather here in East Texas. I actually have to wear a light jacket in the mornings, and I can smell autumn coming in the chill breeze.
A book that I just finished listening to might interest you. “Educated: A Memoir.” by Tara Westover. It is very intense, dealing with her being raised in a very strict mormon family with a father who was bipolar. It’s very well written and I can see why it’s a bestseller.
